Stamford Hospital and the City of Stamford Health and Social Services Department work together throughout the year, sponsoring numerous health fairs, including the Senior Health Fair held every fall at the Jewish Community Center. In addition, the hospital partners with Club BeWell, an organization created to motivate adolescents to practice healthy lifestyles.
Since its inception, Stamford Hospital has supported The Stamford Parent Leadership Training Institute. For ten years, the PLTI's mission has been to enable parents to become leading advocates for children; to improve their lifelong health, safety and learning; and to become change agents for the next generation. A total of 189 parent leaders and 85 children leaders have participated. PLTI Alumni have made a positive impact in Stamford.
Stamford Hospital and the American Heart Association are working together as partners in promoting healthy living and saving lives -- to reduce the incidence of coronary disease and stroke. Join the Stamford Hospital team at the Heart Walk on Sunday, October 29th at Sherwood Island in Westport.
Women's Services
Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in women in this country. Yet only 13% of American women recognize that heart disease is their leading cause of death. That's why Stamford Hospital is a major supporter of the American Heart Association Go Red for Women, a movement to empower women to improve their heart health through lifestyle choices and actions.
Stamford Hospital is also a sponsor of "Search Your Heart," a free, faith-based health program of the American Heart Association aimed at building awareness among minority populations. The goal is to encourage participants to change unhealthy lifestyles and develop heart-healthy habits. If you would like to learn more about how you can implement Search Your Heart in your faith-based organization, please contact Lorene Highbridge at Lorene.highbridge@heart.org.
Paint the Town Pink is Stamford Hospital 's awareness program aimed at encouraging women to have regular mammography screening for breast cancer. Sponsored by the Women's Breast Center and Bennett Cancer Center, major partners include Stamford Downtown Special Services District, Breast Cancer Alliance, Darien Chamber of Commerce and the City of Stamford Department of Health and Social Services.
