Interventional Radiological Services
Often an alternative to surgery, Interventional Radiology procedures may provide a shorter and less painful recovery for patients with a range of conditions and injuries. Our Interventional Radiology physicians are highly trained in performing these specialized procedures, which combine the latest in computer-aided imaging technology with sophisticated medical training. Stamford Hospital's Interventional Radiology Department strives to provide excellent care with minimum discomfort. Stamford Hospital offers state-of-the-art care in diagnostic and therapeutic Interventional Radiological Services utilizing a Phillips Integris Fluoroscopy suite, GE CT scanning and Sonosite Ultrasound. Our physicians are all board-certified.
Procedures
- Endovascular Procedures - including stents and treatment of varicose veins
- GI/Biliary Interventions - including feeding tube placement
- GU procedures - including treatment of kidney obstructions
- Myelography - to evaluate for spinal stenosis
- Vascular Access - for long-term IV therapy
- Uterine Fibroid Embolization - for treatment of fibroids
- Vertebroplasty - for treatment of compression fractures of the spine
- Drainage Procedures - for treatment of abnormal collections
- Oncological Services - including biopsy and treatments such as chemoembolization and Radio Frequency (RF) embolization of tumors
Most procedures are performed in the hospital on an outpatient basis. The procedures take about one hour on average, with a three-hour recovery time. Patients should schedule in advance any blood or medical tests recommended by their physician, and should refrain from eating for six hours beforehand. Arrangements should be made for a driver and transportation afterward, as sedation is sometimes given.
