For more than 100 years, we have provided compassionate care for members of our community. Stamford Hospital has 305 beds, with centers of excellence in cancer, cardiology, women's health and orthopedics. We are also expanding and improving our medical services, rebuilding our facilities, and enhancing our wellness and lifestyle change programs. With the addition of open-heart surgery and elective angioplasty, to begin in early 2007, we will have a world-class cardiac services unit.

Our affiliations with the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System connect us directly with the expertise, research, resources and technology of two of the country's leading academic medical centers.

Our focus on excellence continues to be evident in our many awards and national recognition. Our initiative on the Intensive Glycemic Management in Critically Ill Patients received the 2004 Ernest A. Codman Award, sponsored by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). This prestigious award recognizes achievement in the use of process and outcomes measures to improve organization performance and the quality and safety of health care.

In August of 2005 Stamford Hospital was named a recipient of the Magnet™ Award of Excellence in Nursing Services by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). This award represents the highest honor a hospital's nursing program can achieve. Fewer than 3% of the nation's hospitals qualify for Magnet™ designation. Stamford Hospital is the only hospital in Fairfield County to attain this status - and one of only three Magnet™ hospitals in the State of Connecticut.
